Cyber Security & Backup
Realistic protection, without the scare tactics
SME businesses get targeted because they're easier, not because they're valuable. The realistic threats are ransomware that encrypts your shared files, an email account that gets taken over and used to invoice your customers, and a backup that everyone assumed was running and wasn't.
We deal with all three, in plain language and at a scale that makes sense for a business of your size.

If something has already happened
Phone rather than email — 0141 673 5316. Typical response time is 8 hours and we can attend the next working day in most cases, but a live incident is the one thing you should not put in an email queue. We'll help you contain it, work out what was reached, recover what can be recovered, and close the gap that let it in.
Backup and disaster recovery with Datto
We use Datto hardware and cloud for on-site and off-site backup and disaster recovery. It's enterprise-grade kit at a scale that suits an SME, and it does the two things that matter when something goes badly wrong: it keeps a local copy you can restore from quickly, and an off-site copy that survives fire, theft and ransomware reaching your network.
Disaster recovery matters as much as backup. Restoring a server from scratch can take days you don't have. With Datto in place, a failed server can be brought back up quickly enough that the business keeps trading while the hardware is dealt with.
A backup nobody has ever restored from is not a backup — it's a hope. Backups are monitored, so a failure is noticed in days rather than discovered during a crisis.
Practical protection
- Endpoint protection that's monitored rather than installed and forgotten
- Email security and multi-factor authentication on the accounts that matter
- Patching and updates kept current across your machines and servers
- Sensible access control — not everyone needs access to everything
- Backup of your Microsoft 365 data, which Microsoft does not retain the way most people assume
- Staff guidance on the scams actually in circulation locally
How we work
Monitored backup and disaster recovery is included in a support contract, alongside telephone, email and remote support, server and Microsoft 365 administration and software support. Contracts are quoted to suit the size of your team.
Project and ad-hoc work outside a contract:
- Site survey and initial security review — free.
- Call-out — £24 inc. VAT (£20 + VAT) anywhere in the Central Belt of Scotland.
- On-site time — £60.00 per hour inc. VAT (£50.00 + VAT).
Common questions
We're small — are we really a target?
Almost all of it is automated and indiscriminate. Attackers scan for unpatched machines and reused passwords; they don't check your turnover first. Being small makes you more likely to be caught, not less.
What's the difference between backup and disaster recovery?
Backup is having a copy of your data. Disaster recovery is being able to keep trading while the problem is fixed. Datto covers both — a local copy for speed, an off-site copy for safety, and the ability to stand a failed server back up quickly.
How quickly can you respond to an incident?
Typical response is 8 hours, next working day on site in most cases. Phone for anything live — that's always fastest.
Will it slow everything down?
Properly configured, no. Most of the performance complaints we see come from two overlapping security products fighting each other, which is one of the first things we check.
